Fleetwood Town vs Wigan Match Analysis and Prediction

Fleetwood Town will welcome Wigan Athletic to Highbury Stadium for their first round tie of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.

Fleetwood who barely escape relegation last season in League one will be looking to avoid such scenario this season. They opened the new season on the back foot as they suffered a 2-1 away defeat to Port Vale, but did well to bounce back last time out as they beat Plymouth 2-1 at home last Saturday.

They now will be looking to maintain the momentum going into the League Cup encounter on Tuesday, as they seek to advance to the next round of the competition, while also building more confidence and momentum ahead of their third league One tie at Morecambe in the process.

They will however need to be on top of their game as they have failed to beat Wigan in their last four encounters, losing out on the last two.

Wigan managed to earn their promotion to the Championship after winning the League One title last season. The Latics have started their new campaign in the second tier slowly as they have drawn both their opening two matches, starting with a 0-0 with Preston and then a 1-1 against Norwich.

However the draws have seen them increase their unbeaten run to seven matches across all competitions and they will be looking to extend the run with a win on Tuesday, as they hope to advance to the next round of the EFL Cup.

Wigan will fancy their chances of Tuesday having gone unbeaten in their last four fixtures against Fleetwood and are coming off a five-match unbeaten run on the road.
