Forspoken, the upcoming big game from Square Enix and Luminous Productions will miss its previously announced October release date and will now be set to launch in January 2023 instead.

The good news is that “all game elements are now complete” and the game is currently undergoing polishing.

Here’s the entire message from the development team:

“As a result of ongoing discussions with key partners, we have made the strategic
decision to move the launch date of Forspoken to January 24, 2023. All game elementsare now complete, and development is in its final polishing phase.

“We would like to thank you for your continued support and patience on this journey. Your excitement for the game inspires us every day and we cannot wait to share more about Forspoken with you later this Summer!“

Forspoken when it was still being called project Athia was one of the first games revealed coming to the PS5. Luminous Productions are made up of members that worked on Final Fantasy XV, and continue to make games using their proprietary Luminous Engine.

Moving out of the busy schedule that is October 2022 in favour of more polish time might do Forspoken some favours. It’s the second big delay, but hopefully, the additional work on fixing bugs can help Forspoken launch in a better state than Final Fantasy XV was.

As for Square Enix, the publisher is still busy with game releases around the October window with The DioField Chronicle on September 22, the Switch version of Nier Automata on October 6, Star Ocean: The Divine Force releasing on October 27 followed by Harevestella on November 4 and Valkyrie Elysium on November 11.

Forspoken is now set for release on January 24, 2023 for the PS5 and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store).
