Fortnite Returns to LAN with $1m FNCS Invitational 2022

Since 2019, the bustling esports ecosystem of Fortnite has lived firmly within the realms of the internet. For the last three years, every tournament, from the most minor, to the million-dollar competitions, has been held online. Now, Epic has teased a return to form for Fortnite, announcing the FNCS Invitational 2022 tournament, a $1 million LAN-based event. From the 12th to the 13th of November, 2022, a ‘selection of duos’ will be travelling to Raleigh, North Carolina, to take part in this momentous competition.

However, for the time being, Epic is proceeding cautiously, advising that the situation may be subject to change. It was explained in an update that the “players’ health and safety are the number one priority,” and should any ‘public health trends’ change, the event may once again be called off.

What Is The FNCS Invitational 2022?

Back in 2019, there were a few events that were considered gargantuan for the world of Fortnite esports. At the top of the table sat the first (and only) Fortnite World Cup, which boasted a prize pool worth more than $30 million. It was a staggeringly high profile event, but owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was the only Fortnite World Cup to ever take place. With the return to LAN coming in the form of the FNCS Invitational 2022 tournament, fans are holding out hope for a World Cup competition in 2023.

It was in September of 2019 that the final Fortnite event to be played in a LAN environment took place. This was the $1 million TwitchCon Fortnite Showdown, which saw fans rushing to San Diego to see some of the world’s greatest Fortnite players take to the stage.

Now, when November rolls around, fans will (hopefully) be able to replicate that experience, this time travelling to Raleigh, North Carolina. At the FNCS Invitational 2022, the top-rated, most skilled duos from the FNCS pool will be invited to compete in the tournament. They’ll be hand-picked from the many teams that populate the FNCS from all around the world, and they will themselves already be championship-grade players.

This is the statement taken straight from Epic:

We will be inviting a selection of top FNCS Duos from around the world who will have the opportunity to compete in a single lobby for a share of a $1,000,000 prize pool! We plan to share more details on the FNCS Invitational 2022 in the coming months.

There are high hopes for this tournament where Fortnite betting is concerned.

Fortnite continues to be on the up and up to where popular battle royale platforms are concerned. Even now, five years after its launch, Fortnite is still regarded as one of the best battle royale games to ever exist. It has gone from strength to strength in the last year, seeing a huge influx of players return to the platform, or enter it for the first time, following the debut of ‘no build mode’ within the game.

On June 4th, another epic event is set to take place within Fortnite, marking the end of another chapter. If there’s one thing Fortnite is known for, it’s for constantly changing the scene, the landscape, the story, and the many cosmetics and collectables in the game itself. There’s no telling what will come this year from Fortnite, but we’re all hoping that the return to LAN will be a positive one and that we’ll see a Fortnite World Cup take place again in 2023.
