With the first and only Fortnite World Cup having taken place in 2019, there having exclusively been FNCS Trios going on over the past year, and no LAN events for the scene hosted since early 2020, the Fortnite competitive scene has long been yearning for a World Cup 2022 to be announced, to say the least.

On Friday, the Competitive Fortnite Team announced their top plans and changes coming to Competitive Fortnite in 2022. Here’s a breakdown of whether or not there will be a Fortnite World Cup next year.

Unfortunately, it appears that the World Cup 2022 dream announcement is still a ways away from coming to fruition for now as the topic of whether or not the World Cup would return was not mentioned in Epic Games’ official Competitive Announcements for 2022 blog post.

After this weekend’s FNCS Grand Royale concludes and marks the end of competition in Chapter 2, Epic Games’ main draw for next year appears to be that third-party offline tournaments are now accepting proposals for in-person competitions.

For 2022, the Competitive Fortnite Team felt that since this past year Trios achieved their goal of creating a “consistent and stable yearly game mode for the best players,” they will also be switching the primary Competitive game mode in Fortnite to Duos to shake things up.

Format and structure changes to FNCS Duos qualifiers and semi-finals, Divisional tournaments, 2-Round Cash Cups and other were competitive features for next year were covered extensively, so it’s definitely still possible that more Fortnite World Cups could be on the way depending on how 2022 plays out.
