Gamescom Asia 2022 Won’t Have A Physical Show Floor For The Public

Gamescom Asia 2022 organisers Koelnmesse announced a change of plans for the upcoming video game trade show taking place in Singapore this October.

Unfortunately, the Entertainment Zone, the public-facing (B2C) event for the fans and the general public will be held only online.

This year, the second edition of Gamescom Asia, was set to be the first to open its doors to the public now that it’s relatively safer for such an event, but it won’t be so following this announcement.

Koelnmesse cited “time and resource constraints” as the reason for the change.

“We apologise to the fans who have been waiting to celebrate and interact offline with each other and their favourite games at the festival, and welcome them to join us for a borderless online experience this year,” the statement from the organisers said.

Gamescom Asia 2022 is set to have an event page on Steam, highlighting game demos and previews as well as game sales on the platform, alongside two online livestreams: Primetime on October 19, and Studio on October 23.

The B2B aspect of the tradeshow, for developers, publishers, investors and members of the games industry, will still take place physically in Singapore. Over 60 companies from 15 countries will be participating in the Trade Zone, to be held from October 20-22.

The last big video games trade show event in Singapore was GameStart 2019. The event made way for Gamescom Asia starting in 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic postponed the inaugural event to 2021, with no public show floor.
