Multinational esports organisation Gen.G has announced that it will collaborate with synthetic motor oil brand Mobil 1 to launch two Rocket League esports teams.

Both entities will work together to create one men’s and one women’s team, both of which will compete under the Gen.G Mobil 1 Racing brand.

The men’s team will participate in the 2022-2023 North American Rocket League Championship Series (NA RLCS), where Mobil 1 has been a sponsor since 2018. Moreover, it will consist of top Rocket League players Jack ‘ApparentlyJack’ Benton, Joseph ‘noly’ Kidd, and Nick ‘Chronic’ Iwanski.

Maintaining both organisations’ dedication to gender equity, the women’s team will be known as Gen.G Mobil 1 Racing Black and will compete in Season 5 of the Women’s Carball Championship (WCBC). Its roster will also consist of top players Kira O., Courtney Johnson and Isabella ‘Bella’ Williams.

As a motor oil brand, Mobil 1 has been involved in traditional racing through F1 circuits, NASCAR tracks and other extreme motorsport races, before becoming associated with sim racing and the RLCS. Now, Mobil 1 is looking to further engage with esports audiences by teaming up with Gen.G and creating its own Rocket League rosters to participate in competitive play.

This is not the first time Mobil 1 joins forces with Gen.G either, as both launched ‘The Tune Up’ at the start of 2022. The Tune Up, which was a community improvement and engagement programme centred around NBA 2K, ran for four months until the end of May.

Apart from Mobil 1, Gen.G also has active partnerships with other non-endemic brands such as PUMA, Crocs, and oral care company Smile Direct Club, amongst others. Most recently, the organisation struck a deal with audio manufacturer Bose to launch a number of activations for fans.

Gen.G holds competitive rosters across various titles, including League of Legends, Overwatch, NBA 2K League, VALORANT and PUBG. It was recently announced as a partner team for the VALORANT Champions Tour Pacific League.
