Gorgeous Watercolour Adventure Dordogne Now Has a Publisher

Dordogne

Announced back in 2020, French-styled watercolour adventure Dordogne now has a publisher.

Does that mean it now has a solid release date? Not quite – Focus Entertainment will be publishing it but it’s still got a rather vague 2022 release date. But based on the trailers and so forth that developers Umanimation and Un Je Ne Sais Quoi have released, we’re happy to wait for them to get it right.

It’s not just that its watercolour aesthetic that makes Dordogne appealing, though that’s bound to be a big draw, it also has heart. Take placing in the Dordogne region of South West France, it casts you as a young woman recalling her childhood adventures, trying to recapture her joie de vivre. You’ll flash back to her youth, roaming around and snapping pictures to create a journal documenting her adventures.

Her recollections are, no doubt, skewed a little by her memories of the past, so presenting them as painted landscapes gives the impression you’re stepping into a world that’s uniquely hers. But what’s really caught our attention is the way these landscapes shift as you move the camera. It would have been easy to just have Mimi, the girl in question, wander over flat 2D images, but they actually have a sense of depth.

We have our fingers crossed that, with Focus Entertainment publishing, Umanimation and Un Je Ne Sais Quoi can deliver on Dordogne’s heartwarming premise. We’ll have to wait till 2022, which is when it arrives on PC and consoles, to find out.
