Grand Theft Auto 6 Will Reportedly Return To Miami With Female Protagonist

A new report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has revealed that Grand Theft Auto 6 could feature the series’ first female protagonist. Schreier also suggested that the next instalment will return to a fictional version of Miami, a rumor that had been circulating for quite some time.

There hasn’t been a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series since 2013, making Grand Theft Auto 6 one of the most highly anticipated titles of all time. Rockstar confirmed earlier this year that development on the next Grand Theft Auto game was well underway, and even recently announced that Red Dead Online would no longer receive major content updates moving forward, as to shift focus onto the next entry in the GTA series.

Even with development “well underway”, it looks like we could still be another two to three years away from release, according to Bloomberg’s recent report.

Schreier reports that the next Grand Theft Auto game could “feel very different” as Rockstar Games has reportedly cleaned up their frat-boy culture. It was stated by Schreier that Rockstar quietly shelved a GTA Online DLC titled Cops ‘n’ Crooks, shortly after the tragic murder of George Floyd by a police offer. This wasn’t the only step Rockstar made to remove the frat-boy culture either, when the next-gen version of Grand Theft Auto V was released earlier this year, all transphobic jokes and comments were removed.

As for Grand Theft Auto 6, the report states that it “will include a playable female protagonist for the first time, according to people familiar with the game”. Schreier goes on to say that the woman, who is Latina, will be one of a pair of leading characters in the game and that the story of Grand Theft Auto 6 is “influenced by the bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde”.

The main map of Grand Theft Auto 6 will reportedly be a fictional version of Miami and its surrounding areas, but Schreier doesn’t specifically state that it will be Vice City. He does go on to state that Rockstar is planning on continually updating the game over time with new missions and cities. The world of Grand Theft Auto 6 is also rumored to be “large” with more interior locations than previous games.

According to Schreier’s report, Grand Theft Auto 6 is aiming to release sometime between April 2023 and March 2024, so we’ve still got a while to go!
