The tournament, set to be played both in Europe and North America, will feature a prize pool of $100,000 (~£ 76,677). The tournament will be produced by DreamHack Sports Games for the second year in a row after the esports production company agreed on a partnership with the NHL in 2021.

Chris Golier, NHL Vice President of Business Development and Innovation, commented: “The League is proud to welcome back Scotiabank, Honda, Great Clips, and Navy Federal Credit Union, four committed corporate partners who have been a big part of making the NHL Gaming World Championship a great success.

“Collectively, we have built this powerful platform to engage younger hockey fans around the world, and in its fifth season has become the most dramatic and competitive hockey championship off the ice. “

Interestingly, all four partners of the NHL Gaming World Championship are also the partners of the real-world NHL. Scotiabank and Honda were the first two partners of the tournament at its inception in 2018.

Great Clips is entering its fourth year of partnership and Navy Federal Credit Union is the youngest partner, the current season being the third year the union is supporting NHL’s esports efforts.

Esports Insider says: It’s good to see the NHL Gaming World Championship continue to secure notable partnerships from the NHL, while also bringing endemic brands such as HyperX in 2021.
