Halo Infinite – Certain Affinity’s Rumoured New Mode Will be More “Newcomer-Friendly”, Will Tie Into Forge

Halo Infinite’s free-to-play multiplayer component is going to have to be a continuously updated and expanding experience over the long-term if it’s going to deliver on all the promises that 343 Industries and Microsoft have been making, and rumours have already been doing the rounds about what that could entail in the coming months.

A recent rumour claimed that support studio Certain Affinity is not only working on a new Xbox-exclusive Monster Hunter-style RPG, but also on a new multiplayer mode for Halo Infinite. Windows Central’s Jez Corden, who originally broke that story, recently published a more detailed report about the same, providing further information.

According to Corden, the mode, which is currently codenamed “Tatanka”, is still several months away from launch, and is going to be more “newcomer friendly” than Halo Infinite’s other multiplayer offerings like Arena and Big Team Battle. Apparently, the mode will attempt to draw in players who generally don’t play Halo much and tend to stick with the likes of Call of Duty: Warzone, Apex Legends, and Fortnite. Whether that means it’ll be a battle royale-style mode, something more PvE-focused, and something else entirely remains to be seen.

Corden also claims that the new mode is going to tie into the upcoming Forge (which doesn’t launch until Summer at least) in some way, with user-generated content being “a core part of the experience”. Cosmetics gained from Halo Infinite’s multiplayer progression will apparently also be integrated, while the mode will have its own separate progression on top of that as well.

This is all still unverified, of course, so keep that in mind, while it also seems like there’s some months between now and the mode actually launching, so there’s the chance that some details end up changing. Either way, with 343 Industries focusing on more immediate things in Halo Infinite’s upcoming roadmap, it doesn’t seem like official word on this mode will arrive just yet.

Halo Infinite is available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
