HBO’s The Last of Us will not be on screens this year

HBO’s The Last of Us release date has not officially been revealed but as it has been confirmed the series will not be airing this year.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO’s programming president Casey Bloys was asked point blank if The Last of Us would be screened this year. “The Last of Us is shooting right now in Canada. We haven’t announced an air date yet. But it’s not 2022. They’re still shooting in Calgary,” he stated.

Those wanting a fix of the franchise may still be luck. Naughty Dog are beavering away on a new version of the multiplayer game Factions and have been since the launch of The Last of Us Part II. There are also numerous reporters a ground up remaster of the original game and that is rumoured to be coming out this year.

Actor Storm Reid was the most recent addition to the cast of of HBO’s The Last of Us and will be playing the character Riley Abel. The series will guest star Nico Parker (The Third Day) as Sarah, Joel’s 14-year old daughter, I wouldn’t give her much chance of surviving past the first ten minutes of episode one, along with Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus) and Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) as Frank and Bill, the two friends of Joel who are met on the journey.

Last of Us Release Date

Pedro Pascal will star as Joel alongside Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Other cast members include Merle Dandridge as Marlene, Anna Torv as Tess, and Noah Crawford as “Large Guy #2”. Go on Noah my son, get that on your CV!

It was in March 2020 when Naughty Dog and HBO confirmed that a series based on The Last of Us would be created. Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin are working together to adapt the game for TV audiences. With filming still in progress HBO’s The Last of Us release date may not be revealed for a good few months yet.
