Heroic dominate Danish derby to win PCC title

Heroic have emerged victorious at the Pinnacle Cup Championship in Lund, Sweden, following a swift victory in the all-Danish derby against Astralis, picking up the first-place cheque for $150,000.

It was a much-anticipated matchup between the two best Danish teams, who had last met in a barn-burner of a group stage match at ESL Pro League Season 15 that saw Heroic scrape by after three close maps and between whom tension had been building for months, with the two sides firing shots off at one another in person and in interviews.

Facing off in the title decider this time, Casper “cadiaN” Møller and company asserted their dominance as their country’s best team at the moment after a convincing affair, earning a long-awaited LAN title and bragging rights for months to come — or at least until the two rivals meet again.

cadiaN gets a big win over his long-time rivals

Heroic opened the series with a statement victory on Ancient, handing Astralis a heavy defeat on the local rivals’ map pick on the back of an immaculate CT side. Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander‘s team could hardly get a say in throughout the first half, with only the first three rounds going their way before Heroic put up a wall with everyone looking in form, but none more so than cadiaN on the AWP.

Astralis‘ offensive ideas left much to be desired, and the only round that went their way out of the last 12 was one where Asger “Farlig” Jensen found a double opening on B on his own. Heroic added a pistol victory on top and the scoreline was soon 14-4, when Astralis‘ last-ditch effort saw them string a few rounds together to no avail in the end. René “TeSeS” Madsen‘ triple on B put his team on map point, and the opening map was over one round later.

Overpass was more closely-contested from the start, but Heroic ultimately put up another great CT side to stamp their brand on the grand final series. cadiaN‘s team looked to run away with it after picking up the pistol round, but an eco win going the other way stopped them in their tracks, as Astralis strung six together after that on the CT side.

A B execute broke the streak and Heroic got to salvaging the half, with Martin “stavn” Lund helping them reduce the deficit with a truly heroic play on the A bombsite. Up by three at halftime, Astralis‘ lead vanished once Rasmus “sjuush” Beck stepped up to the plate with a triple in the second pistol round, and from there Heroic were in the driving seat on the defense, rallying to a 16-11, 2-0 closing.
