Hololive VTuber Game Aquarium Adds Houshou Marine To Its Cast

Aquarium, the upcoming Hololive game starring VTuber Minato Aqua, will be including another virtual streamer in its cast: Houshou Marine alias Senchou.

Aquarium was first announced on June 10, 2022, by Hololive and Entergram. While pretty unknown outside Japan, Entergram is a developer and publisher who regularly releases console ports of PC visual novels. The studio is also behind the newest Umineko console port on PS4 and Switch. Working with Umineko’s main author Ryukishi07, Entergram also developed from the ground up a new IP, Kaleidoscope of Phantasm Prison.

Aquarium Lets You Experience A Pure Love Story With Minato Aqua

Aquarium is set in a medieval-stylized fantasy Europe, in summer, and stars an amnesic protagonist, and the rookie maid Aqua working for them. The story aims to be a “Romeo and Juliet” like experience, showcasing the blooming forbidden love between the noble protagonist and the maid Aqua despite their difference in status.

The game is based on ideas from Minato Aqua herself, who mentioned she always loved romance games like this. She always wanted to become a maid, and to become the protagonist of a romance visual novel. Over time though, especially after becoming a VTuber, Aqua realized being one of the main girls the protagonist goes for would be fun as well. Thus the Heroine maid version of Minato Aqua was born.

Aqua participated in the game’s production and recorded her own lines. The game also includes scenes where she ends up imitating other Hololive members, but she mentioned feeling “depressed” because she doesn’t sound similar at all. All of these comments from Aqua were shared at the game’s reveal event.

Houshou Marine Joins Aquarium As A Senior Maid

As for Houshou Marine, she is a senior maid working for the aristocrat protagonist, and the one in charge of Aqua’s training. Marine is described as a reliable person and an excellent maid. She retains her usual perverted side as well. The dialogue line in Marine’s portrait above has her sharing her love for Chirarism (getting glimpses of a usually hidden and suggestive body part).

You can find in the gallery below the first official artwork and screenshots for Aquarium. There is no gameplay trailer yet, but it’s likely the game’s opening animation will be revealed soon. I wouldn’t be surprised if it featured an original song by Minato Aqua seeing she’s one of the many Hololive VTubers with a singing career. Perhaps additional characters will be revealed as well.

Aquarium will launch in Japan on PS4 and Nintendo Switch on October 27, 2022. The game was not announced in English. If you plan to import it, make sure to check the various shop-specific pre-order bonuses on the official site. There are also two limited editions, one sold normally, and a bigger one sold only on the Hololive store. Buying one of these is the only way to get a physical copy of the game, and only on Switch. Samples for the bonus merch are also in the gallery below.
