How do Pokémon Swarms in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl work?

The original Generation 4 games introduced a few new ways to evolve your Pokémon with stones, so evolution items got even more complex. That wasn’t all they brought out though. And with the remakes, we’re seeing a few other returning systems. Pokémon Swarms are mechanic that has been around since Gen 2, and was abandoned in later Gens.

Pokémon Swarms, also known as Mass Outbreaks are a way for the player to catch Pokémon that are usually rare or otherwise unobtainable. The original Generation IV variants brought out version-specific and previous Generation Pokémon in set spawns once you beat the gamee. This altering of the spawn table was a great way to finish off the National Dex.

First, you have to defeat the Elite Four and unlock the National Pokédex, which opens up the true endgame in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Once you’ve done that, head back to Sandgem Town and meet up with Dawn or Lucas. Meet up with their sister in the house just south of the Pokémon Center in Sandgem.

You will then be directed to head out into the wilds and encounter a bunch of swarms. Pokémon Swarms in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl take the form of 3D models in a big cluster on the grassy areas in each map. Each route and location in the game has the potential to spawn different Swarms. The key thing to remember is that the spawn location will shift and change the included species each day. Move to a new spot on a new day, that way you can see what mass outbreaks happen that day.

That’s just the beginning of things you can do in the endgame. You could also hop into competitions to prove who has the prettiest team. More hardcore Trainers can even rematch a more powerful Elite Four if they want. That means a lot of farming and leveling in your future.
