Huddersfield Town vs Preston North End Match Analysis and Prediction

Huddersfield Town will be looking for a victory that can help them move out of the Championship relegation zone when they play host to Preston North End on Tuesday.

Both teams head into the contest at the John Smith’s Stadium off the back of defeats at the weekend, with the hosts in the relegation zone and eight points behind mid-table Preston.

It has been quite the downward spiral in the five months for Huddersfield since the playoff in May, and they fell to an eighth defeat of the season against Rotherham United at the weekend.

New head coach Mark Fotheringham has now overseen two defeats to go with one draw and one win in his four matches in charge, since he replaced Danny Schofield at the end of September.

However, Fotheringham’s only win came at home, in a somewhat surprisingly comfortable 2-0 victory over Hull City, which should give Huddersfield’s fans confidence ahead of this contest.

Meanwhile, Preston stumbled slightly last week, losing both of their matches including Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at home to Stoke City.

Goals from William Smallbone and Tyrese Campbell in the second half secured the victory for Alx Neil’s side, as Preston conceded two at home for just the second time this season.

The well-documented defensive stability has taken a hit recently, conceding six across the last three matches having kicked off the campaign with nine clean sheets in their opening 12 games.

However, Ryan Lowe’s side still boast the best defensive record in the division, having conceded two fewer than Burnley, but have scored the least number of goals with just eight.

Preston’s last victory did come away from home, a 3-2 win over Norwich City earlier this month, and they have been far better on the road this season, picking up 12 of their 19 points on their travels.
