Carson Wentz and the Indianapolis Colts (8-6) are heading to Glendale, Arizona to take on the Arizona Cardinals (10-4) Christmas Night. NFL Network is carrying this one with kickoff scheduled for 8:15 pm ET. This game will be played inside so we won’t concern ourselves with any weather issues.

The Colts are one of the hottest teams in the NFL as they’ve only lost once since the beginning of November. They manhandled the New England Patriots 27-17 last time out, sending a message to the rest of the league in the process. On the other side, the Cardinals lost 30-12  to the lowly Detroit Lions last Sunday to run their losing streak to two games.

The latest odds are showing the Cardinals as slight 1-point favorites even though the teams seem to be headed in opposite directions. In terms of the total, that is resting at 48.5 but could always be on the move if any Covid news comes out. Just like every other NFL game, there are plenty of player props to consider.

Nobody Can Stop Jonathan Taylor

The Indianapolis Colts have decided that 1950s football is back. Their gameplan literally looks like it’s one sentence long. Give the ball to Jonathan Taylor. That’s it, just turn around and hand the ball off. Seems easy enough and when you have the line they do, why not?

Also to be fair, Taylor is an absolute beast and if I was in charge he would get 30 carries a game.

Going through his game log after watching the game is always interesting. It seems like he gets 50+ carries every game but over the last two, it’s been at least 29. That’s an insane workload for today’s NFL running back but that’s what the Colts are doing.

The thing is, the strategy works. The Colts beat both the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots by feeding Taylor over and over again. He ended up running for at least 170 yards in each game so there is that. What’s great about the Christmas night game is he could easily go for another 170 yards.

One thing that people are figuring out about the Cardinals is that they are fake tough, which hurts when you play the Colts. Indianapolis will make you man up against the run and Arizona has no chance of doing that. Only four teams in the NFL give up more yards per rush attempt this season. They’re going to need a Christmas miracle to stop Taylor and I doubt that will happen.

  • The Pick: Jonathan Taylor Over 102.5 Rushing Yards (-114) – Wager 1.14 units to win 1 unit
  • SBD 2021 NFL Player Props Record: 29-30, +0.73 Units

Zach Ertz Needs To Score

We’re not watching a Christmas night game without having a touchdown scorer prop riding. It’s just not how this whole gambling thing is done. Everyone is on the table and while it’s obvious Jonathan Taylor is a safe bet to score, I can’t pay -150. That’s insane.

I doubt the Colts can shut the Cardinals out so since that’s the case, why not look at Zach Ertz?

If the Colts defense is soft anywhere it’s against the tight end. On the season, no team has given up more receiving yards to the position than Indianapolis. On top of that, only one team has given up more receptions to the big guys. If and when Arizona gets into the red zone, Zach Ertz should be a focus.

  • Pick: Zach Ertz Anytime TD Scorer (+230) – Wager 1 unit to win 2.3 units
  • SBD 2021 Touchdown Scorer prop record: 21-37, -3.56 units
