Cunningham Hot From 3-Point Range

Cade Cunningham is in the midst of a solid rookie campaign for the Detroit Pistons, averaging 16.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.3 assists. He’s especially played well across his last three games, dropping 34, 18, and 25 points, respectively. However, the focus here is going to be his three-point shooting.

On Tuesday against Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets, the former first overall pick went 6-for-9 from downtown. Typically, he only hits about one or two triples per night, but on this occasion, Cunningham couldn’t miss.

This season, he’s shooting just 33% from long range, but the 20-year-old is attempting 6.4 treys a game. The over/under here is just 1.5 and after making it rain earlier in the week, you better believe the first-year swingman is going to be chucking them up at a high rate again with confidence. Also, the Magic struggle to defend the three-ball, with opponents sinking them at a 36% clip. Believe in the hot hand.

  • Pick: Cade Cunningham Over 1.5 Three-Pointers (-196)

DeRozan Torches Former Team

Friday night will mark the first time DeMar DeRozan faces the San Antonio Spurs since he left the organization to join the Chicago Bulls last offseason. Needless to say, it’s been the best decision he’s ever made. The veteran is a darkhorse in the MVP odds and was just named an All-Star starter after posting 26.4 points, five boards, and 4.8 dimes per contest so far.

The prediction here is that DeRozan is going to keep his hot streak going and torch his ex-team. The 32-year-old has hit the over in points in four straight games, averaging an impressive 33.7 points during that span. He’s truly the mid-range king and is oozing with confidence at the moment as he continues to ball out on a nightly basis.

Also, the Spurs allow their opponents to shoot 52% on two-point attempts, which is 15th in the league. As we know, DeMar thrives most when he’s either getting to the cup or pulling up and hitting a 20-foot jumper. DeRozan will remind San Antonio what they already know from his time with the franchise: He’s a cold-blooded scorer. Cash in on the over.

  • Pick: DeMar DeRozan Over 25.5 Points (-106)
