Jerick McKinnon Returns to Chiefs on 1-year Contract

Running back Jerick McKinnon is returning to the Kansas City Chiefs. He is reportedly signing a one-year contract to return to the team with which he signed for the 2021 season. The exact amount that McKinnon will receive on this new deal is unknown at time of writing.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported the news via Twitter on Monday.

McKinnon spent the first four years of his career in Minnesota after being taken in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year contract with the 49ers in 2018, but tore his ACL ahead of the season which prevented him from playing in both 2018 and 2019. In 2020, he finally played for San Francisco, rushing for only 319 yards but punching in five touchdowns on the ground.

Last season with the Chiefs, McKinnon played in 13 games rushing just 12 times for 62 yards and zero touchdowns. He did have a score through the air, however, along with 107 receiving yards. Kansas City will give him another chance to be productive and continue to bounce back from his two-year ACL injury.
