- See below for the Game 5 Kings vs Oilers odds, analysis and betting prediction
No matter what happens in the regular season, the first round of the playoffs is rarely easy as the Edmonton Oilers are finding out against the underdog Los Angeles Kings. Game 5 in this best-of-seven series between the Kings and Oilers is on Tuesday, May 10th with puck drop at 10:00 pm ET at Rogers Place.
Los Angeles put in a terrific home performance to square the series up in game 4, but oddsmakers have the Kings as +190 underdogs for game 5 back in Edmonton in the Kings vs Oilers NHL odds. Interestingly enough, LA had a better record on the road than at home this season.
Let’s take a closer look at the Kings vs Oilers Tuesday NHL odds and give you our best NHL bet.
Kings vs Oilers Odds
|Los Angeles Kings||+1.5 (-130)||O 6.5 (-109)||+190|
|Edmonton Oilers||-1.5 (+108)||U 6.5 (-115)||-230|
Odds as of May 9th at Barstool Sportsbook.
Most are expecting the Oilers to take back control and a 3-2 lead in this series in game 5 and that’s reflected with the home side getting -230 odds on the moneyline. That gives Edmonton an implied win probability of 69.7%.
Kings Continue to Provide Value on Moneyline Bets
All season long, the Kings have been playing above expectations. At 16.64%, they provided the best return on investment of any team in the league when being picked on the moneyline throughout the year. They’ve been underdogs in every game of this series so far, even the last two at home, but are even after four games.

The Kings are playing with house money here as reflected with their long Western Conference odds. Not many expected them to keep this close with their best defenseman, Drew Doughty, out for the year, but their competitiveness and battle is hard to match.
The trio of Carl Grundstrom, Phillip Danault and Trevor Moore has been arguably the best line on any team this series. Those three players have collectively combined for six of the Kings 10 goals in this series while also playing sound defensive hockey in Los Angeles’ two wins.
Jonathan Quick also managed to turn back the clock in game 4, providing several stellar stops in a 31 save shutout effort that included a few without a glove on that had to have his teammates and LA fans holding their breath. The Oilers will want to score early in game 5, because Quick is not a guy you want to allow to get into a zone.

Oilers Home Favorites in Tuesday NHL Odds
One thing that Oilers fans can take solace in is that they haven’t let one loss compound into losing streaks during the last two months. In fact, Edmonton has only lost two games in a row twice since March 9th and bounced back with a resounding 6-0 victory in game 2 of the series after losing game 1 to the Kings.
Like the rest of his team, Connor McDavid was shut down in game 4, but the perennial Hart Trophy odds favorite is impossible to keep down for long. The Oilers captain has only been held scoreless in back-to-back games once over the course of the last two months, so expect him to come out flying back at home.

With some of the most passionate fans in the NHL, the Oilers have compiled a 17-3-1 record in the friendly confines of their own home over the past three months, with one of those losses coming in game 1 to the Kings. That home ice dominance is one of the reasons they’re such big favorites in game 5 of the Kings vs Oilers Tuesday NHL odds.
Kings vs Oilers Series Stats
|10 (2.5/game)||Goals For/GP||17 (4.25/game)|
|17 (4.25/game)||Goals Against/GP||10 (2.5/game)|
One quirky stat specific to the Oilers is that they’ve alternated going over and under the goals total for eight games in a row. If you believe in that trend, then bet the Oilers to respond from a zero goal effort in a big way and take the over in game 5.
Kings vs Oilers Game 5 Pick
Almost everybody had the Oilers advancing to the 2nd round in their NHL playoff bracket, but the Kings are definitely casting some doubt into that narrative right now.
One cause for concern for the Oilers is that it looks like their getting a bit lost in their defensive zone allowing for a lot of shots and chances. The Kings have 46 shots in consecutive games, and although Mike Smith has played well, you don’t want to have your 40-year old netminder facing that much rubber every game.
LA played with great desperation right from the get-go.
EDM never matched their level of intensity.
Kings won all the puck battles.
Mike Smith gave the Oilers a pretty good start.
Need a FAR better performance in Game 5

The Oilers still remain one of the top 10 contenders in the Stanley Cup odds, but a loss in the next game to the Kings would be very worrisome.
With each passing game, the analytical numbers swing more and more into the Kings favor. Something feels a little off here, and with Edmonton facing all the pressure in a crucial game 5, expect the Kings to stun the home crowd with a big road win. Take the value with the Kings at +190 at Barstool Sportsbook.
