Kojima Productions now includes a division dedicated to music, TV and film

Hideo Kojima has made it no secret that he wants to make movies so the launch of a new sub division within Kojima Productions dedicated to film, tv and music was almost inevitable.

The new division is headed by Riley Russell who previously spent 28 years at PlayStation. “The new division will be tasked with working with creative and talented professionals in television, music and film, as well as the more familiar games industry,” commented Russell.

“The team has as its charter, the goal of expanding the reach and awareness of the properties now under development at Kojima Productions, and to make them even more a part of our popular culture. Although we are a global organization, the new business development team will be centred in Los Angeles, CA. We are truly excited and looking forward to working with the very best entertainment talent we can, across all of the entertainment industries.”

“Finding new ways to entertain, engage and offer value to our fans is essential in a fast-moving, ever changing storytelling world,” adds Kojima Productions’ business development manager Yoshiko Fukud. “Our new division will take the studio into even more areas that present our creative narratives beyond videogames and to open up ways for our fans to communicate and immerse themselves in these spaces.”

You may notice the plural there, ‘properties’, but so far Kojima Productions just has one game, Death Stranding. There have been reports that Kojima Productions is working on the Silent Hill reboot for Sony but that property would remain under the ownership of Capcom. Death Stranding doesn’t really lend itself to sequels although a TV show or movie set in the same world could work, or maybe they are working on a completely new game that has not leaked.

Kojima is best buds with Geoff Keighley so if there is a new game announcement you can put money on it showing up at The Game Awards in early December.
