Sifu, a kung-fu beat-em-up with roguelike elements is arriving… two weeks earlier than planned? What madness is this?
It sounds like developers Slocap are going against the grain but Sifu was set to be a 2021 release before being shunted to February 22nd 2022. Now it’s been bumped up so it’ll be putting the boot (and fist) in February 8th.
Accompanying the announcement are a pair of new trailers, a Combat System trailer and a Death and Aging trailer. The former sheds some light on how you can dispose of your foes, which includes using the scenery against them. We’ve hoping this encompasses kicking them down holes – there are few in-game activities more entertaining than encountering an enemy with a mile-long energy bar and immediately booting them into the abyss.

But it’s the Death and Aging trailer that’s really got our attention. It shows your character meeting a sticky end, then using their enchanted pendant to rise to their feet, one year older. Expiring does let you upgrade your skills, though your life bar will take a hit and at some point being killed will mean permadeath, so you can’t be too sloppy.
It’s a cool mechanic which we’re definitely looking forward to trying out. Though if we had our way we’d make it that your character was thrust through time, eventually facing down the children and grandchildren of the hoodlums who dispatched them. And then they’d mock you for having an iPhone 13 when cranial implants are all the rage.
Hang on.. does this mean that if we get into a pub fight, we’d get to play the final version of Elden Ring early? We’re starting to see the merits of this mechanic. Sifu will be smashing its way onto PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox One February 8th 2022. We, on the other hand, are heading down Wetherspoons with a megaphone.
