Latest Horizon Forbidden West Update Lets You Disable Item Pickup Animations

Horizon Forbidden West update 1.09 stealthily added an option that allows players to turn off item pickup animations, considerably speeding things up. As spotted by GamesRadar, the much-needed option was noticed and brought up by Reddit users. Previously, Aloy would slow down and squat to pick up items and loot. By disabling pickup animations, players can now sprint around the world and simply press triangle to grab whatever they want without those annoying brief pauses.

On the main game menu, go to Settings, then General, then locate Pickup Animations. Simply turn the feature off and voila! But wait, there’s more. This option also works when Aloy is on a mount and under water. Those who’ve been playing Horizon Forbidden West will be aware that Aloy tends to freeze under water when picking up items. Now, it’s all instantaneous. This change isn’t mentioned in the official patch notes, for some reason. Nevertheless, quite a lot of players are ecstatic about it.

Opinion: Disabling pickup animations should have been advertised as a major feature

Zarmena writes… It’s unclear why Guerrilla Games didn’t mention this change in the official patch notes. It may seem small, but it’s actually pretty significant especially when going for collectibles and 100 percent completion. Many aspects of Horizon Forbidden West revolve around item collection and, trust me, the last thing you want is for things to slow down when you’re trying to pick up rocks to distract a machine in a tense situation. Thanks to Reddit users, my Platinum trophy run is a lot less time-consuming now.

In other news, a new report claims that Sony is looking into officially bringing PS3 emulation to the PS5, and E3 2022 has been cancelled in favor of a physical and digital event in 2023.
