LEC Power Rankings: 2023 Winter Split Week 3

LEC Power Rankings: 2023 Winter Split Week 3

The LEC 2023 season is finally starting after Rogue surprised everyone and swept G2 in the 2022 Summer Finals. Two new teams have joined or merged into the LEC and there is a brand new format that should shake things up. It will certainly make things interesting and will make doing Power Rankings a bit different. That being said, here are the LEC 2022 Winter Split Week 3 Power Rankings.

Note: With the new structure of the LEC teams that are knocked out will be no longer included in the Power Rankings for obvious reasons. Once they do play again, their “Last Week” rank will be whatever rank they were in their last LEC Power Rankings.

10. XL

(Last Week: 6)

Things have gone from bad to worse for Excel as the squad has looked completely out of sorts during thee Winter Split. Maybe it is the fact that they started off so poorly with little time to recover that is getting to them but this team is way too talented to be in last. But, they still are in last. This team can and should be near the top but they will need a historic 3-0 to even sniff the possibility at making it to the next round.

9. AST

(Last Week: 10)

The only reason Astralis are not in last again this week is because Kobbe is playing his keister off. Everything else has been pretty bad for this team. Finn specifically has looked very lost and not at all like the player that fans saw in 2022. That being said, a great week also could propel them into the next round but it looks unlikely at this point.

8. KOI

(Last Week: 3)

Like Excel, KOI should never be this low. They are the defending champs after all but an 0-3 week will do that. They can and should recover but Week 2 showed their weaknesses. Comp cannot have the abysmal week that he had and Malrang will need to be a bit more careful. There is no doubt that KOI can band together and figure it out but their first two games this week are against VIT and G2. Even a 1-1 split there would go a long way since they finish the Split again Astralis.

7. FNC

(Last Week: 4)

Humanoid and Rekkles have to be more consistent and frankly just better if this team hopes to make a deep run. The LEC has leveled up and FNC have felt stagnant or probably worse from 2022. So much so that Rekkles was playing support (which he does in solo queue at times) and people were wondering if he was moving to the position so Upset could come back. Regardless Fnatic still have a good chance to make it to the next round but they absolutely cannot afford to lose more than one game or it will be out of their control.

6. HER

(Last Week: 7)

A close win over Fnatic was crucial for Heretics. Jackspektra and Ruby look like the real deal. If Evi, Jankos and Mersa can continue to provide the support and resource funneling that they need then this team is dangerous. They are coming together much more quickly than many will have thought and look like they could break their way into the Top 5 in the LEC sooner than later.

5. MAD

(Last Week: 5)

A necessary 2-1 week has helped MAD stay in the same position. They are a solid team but great or maybe even good is still a stretch. Specifically, Carzzy has to be more impactful. Sure the bot lane meta has some matchups that make it look like top lane but its been six games now and Carzzy has been relatively invisible. For MAD to take the next steps, they will have to rely on their ADC to do more.

4. BDS

(Last Week: 8)

Woah, anyone not named LS that saw this coming is probably lying. This squad is on the attack and their younger players are starting to come into their own. Adam, Sheo and Nuc have looked great and were major reasons why they had a 3-0 week. This is likely because they are confident that Crownie and Labrov are able to at least go even in most matchups so the other three can be a big more aggressive. This team is fun to watch and should be on every teams radar as a threat from here on out.

3. SK

(Last Week: 9)

For every Power Ranking that has ever been done at TGH there may not be a bigger jump than this SK team. WOW. They took down the two best teams in the league, in back-to-back games, and have shown the ability to win through every lane. The main reason they are still below the two teams they beat is that they have yet to show consistency. If they ride this four-game winning streak to seven then there will be no doubt that the surprise team in the west is SK Gaming and that everyone (including this author) owe them the most major of apologies.

2. G2

(Last Week: 1)

Losses to SK and VIT showed the flaws that were needed for G2. They were dominating everything and this should only help them to get better. Hans will have to learn to survive bad early games because going 0-7 and 0-6 is not a recipe for success. G2 will need him to be better and hope that he doesn’t become a coin flip because so far when he performs they win and we he does, they lose and lose badly.

1. VIT

(Last Week: 2)

No. More. Yuumi. For. Kaiser. Sure, this was not the only reason Vitality lost but he just cannot have the same impact on the champion. Along with this it felt like Perkz was trying to get cute again with Trist. To be fair, both of those champions are strong in their respective roles and Perkz can certainly play Trist well but staying a bit more conventional until the team has played together for longer is probably not a bad idea. They have basically locked their spot into the next round and this week they will look to wrap up a top spot.
