Linko Review – A Minimalist Puzzling Spark

Linko is one of those puzzle games that lets you solve its problems at your own pace. You’re tapping tiles to twist them 90 degrees, connecting the lines on the tiles and trying to make it from circle to square without a break. And it can be an awful lot of fun.

The game doesn’t expand on its original set of mechanics, adding new line shapes and more complex patterns, but leaving the basics unchanged. That core idea is solid enough to sustain the puzzling for a good long while, though.

The early puzzles are simple enough, but before too long you’ve got multiple squares and circles and a webway of lines that you need to shift around. It’s never supremely taxing, but you are going to have to think your way through the challenges.

You’ll find little tricks to make solving the puzzles easier, looking for patterns in the shapes to guide you to the correct solution. Things do get a little repetitive over longer play sessions, but when you’re dipping in and out there’s enough head-scratching to keep you entertained in short bursts.

There are no huge eureka moments here, just a quick-drip of little dopamine hits as you solve a puzzle. They last long enough to push you to try the next, and the next, and the next. Even the adverts aren’t too disruptive in your quest for completion.

Linko isn’t a game that’s going to win awards or be remembered in a few months time, but it’s a soft, engaging puzzler that’s a lot of fun to play when it’s in your hand. Give it a go and you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
