Liverpool vs Southampton Match Analysis and Prediction

After showing their prowess in the Champions League against Porto, Liverpool come back to Anfield for their Saturday Premier League fixture when they welcome Southampton.

The Reds’ most recent league game saw them trump Arsenal 4-0, while the Saints bowed down 2-1 to Norwich City.

It was readily easy for Liverpool to get to the back of Arsenal, but when they found their way through, they had no chance to give mercy to Mikel Arteta’s side.

Sadio Mane gave Liverpool their opener, after which Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah and Takumi Minamino sealed Arsenal’s fate.

Despite being assured of a first-placed finish before travelling to Porto, Liverpool kept their impressive scoring rate with a 2-0 victory over the Portuguese outfit, with Thiago Alcantara and Salah scoring for the Reds.

Klopp’s side recovered from a two-game winless run in the Premier League to occupy the third position on the table, with a one-point difference to second-placed Manchester City.

Liverpool have scored at least twice in each of their last 16 games across all tournaments and are yet to be defeated at home domestically or continentally.

Southampton became only Norwich’s second victims of the season, as Che Adams’ opener was cancelled by Teemu Pukki and Grant Hanley’s goals that gave Canaries a victory.

The Saints’ four-game unbeaten run came to an abrupt end with a 2-1 loss leaving them at the 13th spot with 14 points, five clear of the relegation zone.

Southampton may have picked a point in the encounter with Manchester City at the Etihad this season, but with 13 defeats from 17 away games in the league, the Saints hold the worst Premier League away record in 2021.

The Saints have lost seven of their last eight league clashes with the Reds and have not scored at Anfield since January 2017 in the EFL Cup.
