Logitech G Cloud handheld is an Android device nobody wants

Logitech has finally revealed its latest Android handheld. After months of leaks, the Logitech G Cloud handheld is now out for all to see, and it doesn’t look very special at all.

Designed entirely for cloud-based gaming, the upcoming device looks like a weak, expensive device for a limited audience. Will it be a worth a purchase?

What is the Logitech G Cloud?

Running on a customised Android frontend, the Logitech G Cloud is an all-in-one cloud gaming device. While you can run some Android games on the machine, it’s designed first and foremost for streaming.

This is evident by its rather weak mid-spec internals. You’ll find a Snapdragon 720G processor, just 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and a lousy 64GB of UFS storage. Thankfully, there is a microSD slot for extra memory.

However, you likely won’t be using much of that storage for games as the Logitech G Cloud is designed to stream instead. You’ll find that the system is designed to use services such as Xbox Game Pass, GeForce Now and other services.

On the other hand, Logitech clearly hasn’t designed the system to be a portable cloud gaming system. This is because the system completely lacks SIM card support. Yep, you can only stream games with WiFi, not 5G.

Furthermore, the tepid specs means that this won’t really service as an emulation station. You won’t be able to run the best GameCube Emulator or best PS2 emulator on this. Well, at least not for most games.

How much is it?

With such weak specs, we were hoping that the device would at least be cheap. However, at a price of $349.99, it’s much more expensive than we’d like.

For comparison, the Nintendo Switch starts at $299. The cheapest Steam Deck starts at just $50 more at $399. For its price, the Logitech G Cloud isn’t offering anywhere near enough.

Nevertheless, the new Android handheld launches next month. On October 17th, you’ll be able to pick up your very own device, if you want to.

Will you be picking up the Logitech G Cloud? If so, tell us why in the comments below.
