LA Thieves have their noses firmly in front on the back of a watershed moment in their short history. It was only for the first time since inception that they emerged Call of Duty League Champions when they stole the New York Major Championship tight under the nose of the home team New York Subliners 5-3 in a pulsating finale.

That it came on the back of a forgettable 2021 where they were riddled with inconsistency and troubles with regards to their roster made it extra special. This season too hadn’t gone the way they would’ve hoped for, and it could’ve yet translated into another roster rejig that many teams do mid-season. The Thieves stuck to their original roster of Kenny, Envoy and Drazah, and these have borne fruit.

Victory couldn’t have been more backs to the wall than their manner of conjuring something out of a hopeless situation. In the fifth map of the series, New York had a 5-4 lead and were on the brink of taking a 3-2 series lead. LA’s Envoy then left his imprint on the game.

It was all the more special for the Thieves because they didn’t even let a glitch that led to them conceding a game – there are no provisions within the CDL rules to call for a replay – affected their game plans. They came out all guns blazing and won the map 3-1, and completed a rout to take control of the contest again. Overall, they dominated Gavatu Control, Berlin Search and Destroy to claim their stake as champions.

If fans were critical of their roster earlier in the same season, the same ones are now singing praises of their combination. That’s the thing about the Thieves. There is way too much talent, sometimes so heady that it can blindside teams.

Of course, if a performance along the way doesn’t come for a while, fans have a tendency to go overboard with criticism, which you’d think is the way sport works in the social media world. In any case, this team has abundant talent that hasn’t done justice; from being underachievers, they want to become a consistent outfit.

Newbies in Boston Breach

Boston Breach are among the newbies in the Call of Duty scene and have a pressure game right away against a team that is itching to finally piece together their jigsaw. The highly-anticipated fixture comes right up top, and there couldn’t have been a pace-setter. Thieves will be tested against a Boston outfit looking to make a statement that they’re no pushovers.

Boston hasn’t had a great year, but you can’t say that is because of lack of trying. They have been consistently in the mid-table, and in the previous season, finished sixth above some of the more accomplished teams like Toronto Ultra, New York Subliners and Florida Mutineers. At this year’s Major tournaments, Breach wasn’t particularly off the pace either, finishing fifth in Major 1 and third in Major 2. So there is heightened expectation this time around with both teams having plenty to prove.

For Boston, it’s an opportunity to finally fire themselves into orbit and show the rest of the league how they’re among the most improved outfits that can go from being challengers to contenders. For Thieves, it’s a chance to show their recent Major win was no accident.

There’s a reason why you can be bullish on Breach. At Major 4, they recorded wins over Optic Texas, Seattle Surge and LA Guerrillas. All three of their wins came against the previous major winners. The win against Guerrillas was particularly significant because they had beaten Atlanta FaZe, one of the more prolific teams in the league. If that wasn’t validation enough of their improvement, you’d struggle to pick out reasons, and that’s where differentiators form in CoD betting.

Barring that one late change that led to Vivid joining the roster in place of Capsidal, Breach has remained consistent in selection all season. They have gelled remarkably well and the performances over time are a ringing endorsement. Yet for all that, they could go tough against the Thieves, who also have some form players.
