Boston University Outlook

The senior trio of guard Javante McCoy, forward Sukhmail Mathon and wing Walter Whyte lead one of the most experienced starting fives in the nation. The Terriers have four seniors and a junior in their lineup.

McCoy is averaging a team-high 16.8 points and has reached double figures in all 15 games. He scored 12 points and had three steals in the loss to Navy.

Mathon had a team-high 18 points along with eight rebounds and three assists. He scored in double digits for a ninth straight game and is averaging nearly a double-double with 13.9 points and 9.5 rebounds.

Boston U.’s third leading scorer is Whyte, who has been limited to seven games so far in 2021-22 but has averages of 12.9 points and 6.6 rebounds. He has been a double-figure scorer in each game.

Whyte had 11 points at Annapolis while senior wing Fletcher Tynen and senior guard Jonas Harper added 10 points each.

The Terriers are averaging 17.5 free throws attempts a game, second in the Patriot League.

Loyola Maryland vs Boston University Prediction

Boston University has won four games in a row over Loyola, but the teams haven’t met since the 2019-20 season because of the pandemic.

The Terriers won the last matchup 89-72 at home when McCoy had 24 points and five assists and Harper added 14 points. Loyola was paced by Andrews’ 17 points and seven rebounds.

Boston U.’s roster looks remarkably similar two years later, which is nearly unheard in today’s college basketball. Yet look for Loyola’s guards to keep the Greyhounds close.
