The Bears shot 29.9 percent and were out-rebounded by nine in a 70-54 loss Sunday.

Road Warriors

Maryland Eastern Shore will play the ninth game of a season-opening, 10-game road run against Division. I teams at George Washington. The Hawks’ only three home games — and three of their five victories — have come against NCAA Division III Bryn Athyn, Clarks Summit and St. Mary’s-Maryland.

The Bears had a three-game winning streak broken their last time out in their loss Charlotte as a 12.5-point underdog Sunday, when they were outscored by 15 in the second half. Another basket and the Bears would be 8-0 ATS in posted games.

Monroe (N. Y.) College transfer guard 6’3 Zion Styles, Florida Gulf Coast transfer junior guard 6’1 Dom London and junior guard 6’5 Da’Shawn Philip, lone starter back from two seasons ago, lead the balanced attack. Styles is averaging 11.2 points, London is averaging 10.9 and Philip is averaging 10.0.

Styles had 15 against Charlotte. Eastern Arizona JC transfer forward 6’5 Nathaniel Pollard averages 9.0 points and 6.8 rebounds on a team with a plus-2.5 rebound margin.

Maryland Eastern Shore beat Lehigh 81-75 to extend its winning streak to three games before falling to Charlotte, and it has been close in others, including a two-point loss at St. Joseph’s in the season opener and a two-point victory at Fordham. UConn beat the Bears 72-63 on Nov. 30.

Streaky GW

The good news: Patriots have won their last two games. The bad news: It is their only two-game winning streak of the season, and they have won only two other games.

The Colonials immersion into the transfer portal has had its benefits. Junior guard 6’2 James Bishop, who transferred from LSU two years ago, is averaging a team high 15.9 points per game, ahead of Virginia Tech transfer sophomore guard 6’2 Joe Bamisile (13.1 points, 6.4 rebounds) and UConn transfer guard 6’4 Brendan Adams (11.1 points).

Junior forward 6’8 Ricky Lindo, in his second season with the Colonials after beginning at Maryland, is averaging 9.5 points and 8.2 rebounds. Arizona transfer 6’8 Ira Lee, expected to add another big body inside, suffered a season-ending knee injury in the preseason.

Freshman guard 6-2 Brayon Freeman had 11 points, eight assists and six steals against Charlotte and had 16 points in a 67-58 victory over Radford in the Colonials’ last game Dec. 13.

By the Numbers

George Washington is 4-7-1 ATS, 2-2-1 at home. The Colonials are 249th in KenPom adjusted efficiency margin, lowest among Atlantic 10 schools. Maryland Eastern Shore is 341st in KenPom efficiency of the 358 teams rated.

The Colonials are shooting 41.5 percent from field,  286th in Division I, and have a minus-4.5 rebound margin, among the worst in Division I. Given their play on the road so far, the Bears should be able to hang here.

The pick: Maryland Eastern Shore +11.5 (-110)
