Medieval Strategy Game Inkulinati Gets A Bardcore Music Video

Inkulinati is an upcoming “ink-based” strategy game by Yaza Games and publisher Daedalic Entertainment. Its main draw is its “ink-based” presentation, where the world and characters are presented in the form of medieval manuscripts.

But it’s not a serious affair. You draw (literally) Beasts to fight others that also use Beasts. And such beasts can be “donkeys playing trumpets with their bottoms, bishop cats vanquishing heretics with prayers, heavy but deadly snails that eat units alive” and more.

Embracing its tongue-in-cheek theming, the developer has partnered with YouTuber and bardcore artist Hildegard von Blingin’ for a music video.

For the uninitiated, bardcore is a weird new subgenre of music that started out as pop music covers to the tune of medieval instruments. You might have came across a bardcore version of Pumped Up Kicks- either the instrumental original or with vocals as sung by Hildegard (with lyrics translated to old English, appropriately) during the pandemic times of 2020.

Looking at it these days, bardcore is now a modern rendition of medieval music. Which fits perfectly with what Inkulinati is trying to do here. So a music video for a game that’s entering Early Access is not only not weird, but a good fit.

Inkulinati has a demo available on Steam, should you want to see how drawing silly Beasts to fight for your glory is something of your interest.

Inkulinati will be released in Early Access on January 31, 2023 on PC (Steam, GOG), Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One (as an Xbox Game Preview title). It’s also coming to Xbox and PC Game Pass on the same date, with a planned release on Switch once the game leaves Early Access.
