Mets Acquire Tyler Naquin and Phillip Diel From Reds

The New York Mets have acquired outfielder Tyler Naquin and pitcher Phillip Diel from the Cincinnati Reds for minor leaguers according to Joel Sherman. In return, the Reds will get pitcher Jose Acuna and second baseman Hector Rodriguez.

The Mets will get a left-handed hitter in Naquin who specializes in hitting right-handed pitching. Naquin is batting .245 with six home runs and 31 RBIs in 184 at-bats.

Diel is a left-handed pitcher who has a 11.12 ERA in five Major League appearances.

With the Reds not looking to compete, they traded Naquin, who is an impending free agent this offseason.

Acuna has a 2.67 ERA in Single-A play this season with a 3-0 record. The righty has pitched 33.2 innings.

Rodriguez is batting .342 in Rookie Ball with three home runs and 16 RBIs in 111 at-bats.

With the trade, the Mets improved their lineup against right-handed pitching as they look to make a playoff push. Their current record is 61-37 which has them in first place in the NL East.
