Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto has suggested the Japanese games giant plans to make more movies based on its intellectual property during a question and answer session with investors.
Nintendo announced the cast for its untitled Mario film during a Nintendo Direct broadcast in September, raising questions about future film adaptations. Nintendo has been reluctant to license its IP for movies after the spectacular failure of the first Mario movie in 1993, but Miyamoto says this new Mario film may just be the beginning.

As translated by analyst David Gibson, Miyamoto said Nintendo would like to produce more films based on its IP, but that the company planned to go one by one rather than make several at once.
Miyamoto also said the Mario film was nearly completed, but that final polish was still being applied to ensure fans didn’t feel betrayed by the film.
Miyamoto’s comments come amid rumors that Seth Rogen, who is set to play Donkey Kong in the Mario movie, could star in his own, Donkey Kong-centric film. Nintendo has yet to comment on the possibility.
