Moss: Book 2 is coming to Quest 2 this summer

Moss: Book 2 will be coming to Quest 2 VR headsets this summer, developer Polyarc has confirmed. There’s no firm date on this, but the game launched as a temporary exclusive for PlayStation VR on 31st March – the original was a PSVR exclusive for 5 months.

For fans of the first game, Moss: Book II picks up right where it left off. Our mousey hero Quill is now firmly in the crosshairs of the Arcane forces that she’s been battling with your help, and needs to learn a bunch of new tricks to overcome them. As before, you will be The Reader, a powerful being overlooking the action and able to interact with the world, as well as guiding Quill on her adventure.

The big difference between PSVR and Quest 2 will be that you aren’t constrained by having to use a DualShock 4 controller. With the Quest controllers both having analogue sticks, you can have independent hands, allowing for more freedom in interacting with the game. We’ll be hoping for a PSVR 2 upgrade whenever that new generation headset releases.

“One of the first things we heard when we launched Moss: Book II on PlayStation VR a few weeks ago was that the Quest 2 community wanted to play it, and we’re going to deliver on that in the very near future,” said Tam Armstrong, co-founder and CEO at Polyarc. “Our goal from day one has been getting the Moss franchise onto as many headsets as possible. We want all VR players to have the opportunity to experience the joy of physical interaction and power of the emotional resonance we’ve been building into the worlds we create. We’re excited to share our game with millions of Quest 2 players around the world this summer.”

Moss Book 2 Review Combat

There’s recently been some speculation that Moss: Book 2 had poor sales on PSVR, compared to the original. PSNProfiles only has access to a subset of gamers that sign up for it, but has just over 100 players owning Moss: Book 2, compared to the 21,000 players owning the original. The original was given away as part of Sony’s Play at Home promotion last year, so that might have skewed numbers. While not the firmest of statistics, it’s still an indication that the appeal of the original PSVR has waned over the last couple of years. Perhaps it’s just too much of a fuss to keep around for those upgrading to PS5?

Moss has quickly become a must-play game series for VR, and the sequel builds on everything that the original did so well. In our glowing Moss: Book 2 review, Gamoc said:

“Moss: Book 2 expands and improves on its predecessor in every way. Whether it’s the emotional attachment you develop with Quill, the surprising twists the story goes through, or the inventiveness of the combat and puzzles, Moss: Book 2 is creative in a way that delights at every turn. If you’ve got PSVR, it’s pretty much essential.”

We’ll soon be able to scratch the “If you’ve got PSVR” from that conclusion.
