Most Expensive Car Sold At $140 Million Can Be Bought In Forza Horizon 5 For The Same Price (In In-Game Currency)

Playground Games has revealed what to expect from the upcoming Series 11 of Forza Horizon 5, Rami’s Racing History in the latest Forza Monthly and Forza Horizon 5 Let’s Go scene.

One of the cars to be added to the open world racing game is the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR. It’s a returning car, featured as recently as Forza Horizon 4. It’s a race car that won the 1955 Mile Miglia rally, but also the race car that tragically crashed in Le Mans the same year, an accident where spectators of the race lost their lives from, which caused Mercedes to not only retire from the race, but also stopped competing from sports car racing for the next 30 years.

Interestingly, despite being a limited-time reward car from the Festival Playlist, the 300 SLR will also be available in the Autoshow, so any player can just buy the car in the game’s shop, not limited to any time or seasonal event. At least, any player that has 140 million credits. That’s 140,000,000 credits.

The current most expensive car in Forza Horizon 5’s showroom is the Shelby Daytona Coupe, at 30 million credits.

This is a ridiculous amount for just a car, but the reason for the price is to match the recent record-breaking car sold for around $140 million USD at auction, which was a 300 SLR from the same model year (albeit the one sold on auction is the coupe version, whilst the one in-game has an open top).

It’s a wild feature to have, especially given the current climate of racing games where car prices have gone too high and players are forced to grind for their favourite classics. Gran Turismo 7’s classic car prices are still a sore point among fans.

But to Forza Horizon 5’s credit, the ability to buy the car is a bonus feature. You should be able to earn this from the Festival Playlist. And you can’t buy in-game credits with real money. And you can sell cars in the auction house, where crafty players could earn millions from just trading cars around. So there are more in-game credits laying around.

However, realistically, no one should want to buy the 300 SLR at that ridiculous price. It’s a nice nod to the real world’s automotive culture, but thankfully that’s not the only way to own the car in Forza Horizon 5.

The next update for Forza Horizon 5 will bring in Rami’s Racing History (Series 11), this Thursday, August 18. Forza Horizon 5 is available on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
