MWI 2023: ID and PH secure the top four spots

Only four teams remain at the MWI 2023, as the first day of the playoff stage got off to an electric start with four eliminations.

Although the playoff stage of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Women’s Invitational 2023 only occurs over two days, its first day was definitely full of some exciting and epic action, with all the teams trying to avoid elimination and get themselves into the top four. Unfortunately, with a total of eight teams, only four would make it through to the final day, while the rest would be eliminated.

With best-of-three series now the name of the game for today, the defending champions, Bigetron Era, were first to play, taking on the Singaporeans of Grayback Odyssey – who had replaced Reborn in the event. Thanks to an amazing Moskov in both games from Michelle “Chell” Denise, the Robots stomped their opponents in a swift 2-0 and moved on into the next round of the playoffs.

Risk Velkhana were next up, having to take on the Impunity Startlets, and it was another one-sided series, unfortunately. After getting pummelled by the Beatrix of Taro Taro Taro in game one, Impunity were then assaulted by Rain God’s Valentina, who scored herself the MVP and helped the Philippine’s roster to move forward in the playoffs with an easy 2-0 victory.

During the Group Stage, we saw some brilliance from MDH Phoenix, mainly in their tiebreaker domination which secured them their spot in the playoffs. However, the Vietnamese hopefuls were cut down today when Smart Omega Empress found their stride quickly and never really slipped up. Even against picks such as Saber and Harith, Empress conquered their opponents with a third clean-sweep victory for the day.

For the final series of the day, GPX Basreng would go up against Zeros Esports Gaming, with only one final spot left in the semi-finals. A Terizla pick from the Malaysian’s was only enough to cause minor issues for GPX in game one, but not nearly enough to take a win, as the 2022 runners-up found their way to another 2-0 victory for the day.

After a string for one-sided 2-0 victories, the four teams heading into the semi-finals of the MWI 2023 are set, as Bigetron Era, GPX Basren, Smart Omega Empress, and Risk Velkhana set us up for an Indonesia versus Philippines battle – akin to what we see a the M-series and MSC events. The MWI 2023 wraps up on Sunday, February 12, so stay tuned for all the highlights and information between now and then.
