MWI 2023: MDH Phoenix dominate the Group B tiebreakers

Today would see the Group Stage of the MWI 2023 close, as GPX Basreng matched their biggest rivals and tiebreakers split Group B.

After yesterday’s masterclass showing by Bigetron Era in Group A of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Women’s Invitational 2023, their biggest rivals in many tournaments, GPX Basreng, matched their flawless scoreline in Group B. Having started off the day with a solid victory over the Philippines squad of Risk Velkhana, GPX continued with an easy path through the rest of their group, which included Team HAQ Ladies, Grayback Odyssey, and MDH Phoenix. With the top spot settled, it was down to the rest of Group B to fall in line – which took three teams heading into tiebreakers.

As the day came to an end from the MWI 2023, three teams were tied at only a single point, having lost three of their games and only won one. Having had an extremely tough day after a victory in their first game, the Vietnamese squad which had come through a Mekong Qualifier seemed likely candidates for elimination – but that would not be the case.

Having lost to the Team HAQ Ladies roster merely 30minutes before, MDH Phoenix went up against them once again, this time showing that they had something to prove. After an emphatic victory, the Vietnamese team were not ready to stop, taking a second victory over Grayback Odyssey for the day. The two wins secured MDH’s path through to the playoffs, while Team HAQ Ladies were unfortunately eliminated, having lost their head-to-head game against Odyssey earlier in the day.

With Group B completed, we now look ahead to the playoff stage of the MWI 2023, which is set for some fireworks, as can be seen in the schedule above. With both Bigetron Era and GPX Basreng locked in, as well as the added threat of MDH Phoenix and each of the other teams, the best-of-threes over the next few days are sure to be extremely entertaining. With picks such as Brode and Karrie coming in strong, you can be sure that these teams know exactly how to masterfully carve through their opponents no matter what.
