NA CSGO Teams Evaluate Moving to Europe for CSGO LAN Tournaments

The coronavirus pandemic has been a major spoilsport for esports teams and tournaments. Restrictions on global travel and social distancing norms forced tournament organizers to cancel several LAN events. But the industry coped quickly with multiple online events to fill the yawning gap in the esports calendar.

According to a new HLTV.org report, multiple North American CS:GO teams are considering moving to Europe for the last few months so that they can compete against their European counterparts, .

Will CS:GO Have LAN Events in Late 2020?

Ongoing discussions are considering the possibility of NA CS:GO teams moving to Europe in the upcoming weeks. The plan is to move top-tier CS:GO competition to Europe after IEM New York North America which takes place from October 6-18, 2020.

Most of the tournaments will still take place online, but this move opens up opportunities for LAN events. One of the highlights of the year could be the IEM Global Challenge, which is a $500,000 December LAN tournament scheduled to take place in Germany. 

The BLAST Premier Fall Series could be the first international event after IEM Katowice 2020 earlier in the year. According to the report, BLAST has been a key component in getting its four NA teams, Liquid, Evil Geniuses, 100 Thieves and MIBR to Europe for the fall season. The tournament organizer could merge its BLAST Premier regional events into one.

IEM Beijing-Haidan and DreamHack Masters Winter are two other CS:GO tournaments that have already been announced for 2020.

Other tournament organizers are also in talks with teams and players to figure out the schedule for the rest of 2020. 

Astralis recently won the ESL Pro League Season 12 Europe after a nail-biting reverse sweep victory over Natus Vincere. The team’s in-game leader, Glaive called for a match against FURIA, the ESL Pro League Season 12 NA winners.
