Colgate is projected as a No. 15 seed in the South Region per the latest March Madness bracket projection, but Navy will be the team to get a berth in the tournament if they can upset the Raiders in the Patriot League final. As a +210 underdog, Navy has just a 32.26% implied probability to win.

Colgate Great Betting Value in Patriot League

The top seeded Raiders were a huge -210 favorite to win the league tourney before it began and have destroyed their competition so far, defeating Bucknell 96-68 last Thursday and Lehigh 81-61 on Sunday. With their confidence riding high, Colgate is a 6.5 point favorite over Navy to win their 3rd conference title in the last four seasons.

They were 16-2 in the conference this year and including their two Patriot League tournament wins, the Raiders have 14 consecutive wins against conference opponents.

If they can defeat Navy for a 3rd time this year, it will mark their 5th NCAA March Madness tournament appearance. They’ve never won a tournament game, but they could be a squad that might upset a contender in the Final Four odds given they’re peaking at the right time and have a starting lineup fully comprised of upperclassmen.

Navy vs Colgate Recent History

Colgate defeated Navy in both meetings this year, the first time more easily than the last when the Raiders squeaked out a 74-69 win over the Midshipmen. Tucker Richardson had a monster game in that contest with 23 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.

Richardson and fellow senior guard, Nelly Cummings both made the All-Patriot League First Team and combined for 38 points in that February 26th win over Navy. The Midshipmen will need an answer on defense against Richardson and Cummings to score an upset. They can take confidence knowing they held Richardson to just 4 points in their first meeting of the season.

On offense, for the Midshipmen to stand a chance, they’ll need leader and senior guard John Carter Jr. to carry them to victory. He’s coming off back-to-back 21 point performances in conference tournament play to bring Navy to this point.

The Midshipmen were able to recover in a thrilling semifinal after Boston University forced overtime with a game-tying three pointer with four seconds left. Navy outscored the Terriers 17-12 in the extra period to secure their spot in the tournament final.

Navy vs Colgate Prediction

Coming off a couple of blowout victories, the favored Raiders definitely have the momentum coming into this one. This is their 5th Patriot League Final appearance in a row and they won’t be satisfied being runner up.

Their shooting is deadly from long range where they’ve shot over 40% so far this season which ranks 2nd in the whole NCAA! To add on, they’re playing on their home floor at Cotterell Court which is another issue that the Midshipmen will have to deal with.

Navy should also be on cloud nine after that exhilarating semi-final victory, but that win over Boston University will likely be their fondest memory of the season. Expect Colgate’s roster of upper classmen to go out with a bang and roll to victory on Wednesday.

Pick: Colgate -6.5 (-110)
