NBA Week 6: Betting Odds and Picks for the Top 2 games in the Weekend

Lakers guard Patrick Beverley was issued a three-game suspension for his shove in the back on Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton on Tuesday night. The shove came when Ayton was not looking and sent him to the floor. The ban will cost Beverley $268,965 in salary; it is not the first time Beverley has dealt out a shove that an opponent did not see. In the 2021 Western Conference Finals, Beverley (then with the Clippers) dealt out a similar shove to Chris Paul, a guard for the Phoenix Suns, who were about to eliminate the Clippers from the playoffs. Beverley is struggling with the Lakers this season, averaging 4.1 points, 3.9 boards and 2.9 assists in 14 starts. His shooting percentages overall (26.6%) and from three-point land (23.8%) are career lows. Going into the weekend, check out our NBA top betting picks.

L.A. Lakers at San Antonio Spurs
(8:00 pm ET)

The Lakers will play the Spurs in the Alamo City for the second straight night when they square off on Saturday night. The Lakers rolled over San Antonio when they met in L.A. last Sunday, 123-92, with the Lakers entering as six-point favorites. The Lakers (5-11) had a three-game winning streak before losing by ten at Phoenix (and seeing Beverley earn his suspension). The Lakers are 0-6 straight up and against the spread in 2022-23. Against the Suns, they clanked 18 of their 22 shots from three-point land, while Phoenix went 16 of 34 from distance. Anthony Davis led the Lakers with 37 points, 21 boards, five steals and five blocks. Lonnie Walker IV went 8 of 18 from the floor, scoring 24 points, and Russell Westbrook came off the bench to put up 21 points and five assists. Davis became the only player ever to put up at least 35 points, 20 rebounds, five steals and five blocks in one game. That made four straight games with 30+ points and 15+ rebounds, which has helped during LeBron James’ absence with a groin injury. James is expected to return in San Antonio, though.

The Spurs (6-13) saw their losing streak reach six games on Wednesday, taking a 129-110 beating at home from New Orleans, entering as 5 ½-point underdogs. The Spurs could not stop Zion Williamson, who had 32 points – 18 coming in the first 6:30 of the game. San Antonio made just 10 of their 34 shots from three-point land and missed 10 free throws, while the Pelicans won the scoring battle in the paint by 16. Devin Vassell was the Spurs’ top scorer with 26 points, going 10 of 17 from the floor, and Doug McDermott had 21 points off the bench. San Antonio is in the midst of a 1-12 tailspin, permitting 125.3 points per game in their last four contests. Final Score Prediction: Los Angeles 110, San Antonio 102

Portland Trail Blazers at Brooklyn Nets
(3:00 pm ET)

The Trail Blazers are mired in a four-game losing streak that dates back to a 109-107 home loss to these same Brooklyn Nets last Thursday. Since then, they have lost at home to the Utah Jazz and embarked on an East Coast swing, losing in Milwaukee on Monday and Cleveland on Wednesday. They face the New York Knicks on Friday before heading across town for Sunday afternoon’s matchup. Their loss in Cleveland came in 114-96 fashion, as Donovan Mitchell went off for 34 points for the hosts. Jusuf Nurkic led the Trail Blazers with 22 points and added six boards, and Jerami Grant chipped in 21. Anfernee Simons had 20, with 14 coming in the fourth quarter, but by then it was too late.

The Nets have won two of three since knocking off Portland, beating Memphis at home before heading out on a three-game road swing. They lost the opener in Philadelphia, 115-106, despite the 76ers not having Joel Embiid, and then they beat Toronto, 112-188, on Wednesday night. They take on Indiana on Friday night before heading home to welcome Portland. In the loss to Toronto, Kevin Durant only had 12 points, but the Nets won anyway. Kyrie had 29 points, including 19 in the third quarter, and Nic Claxton added 14 points and 12 rebounds. Ben Simmons had 14, and Royce O’Neale knocked down a career-best five three-pointers, totaling 15 points on the night. Final Score Prediction: Brooklyn 111, Portland 106.
