Neco-Arc Leads Season 2 of Melty Blood: Type Lumina (8/4)

Developers of Melty Blood: Type Lumina, French Bread announces one of the newest characters in the game’s second season, Neco-Arc

Melty Blood: Type Lumina is a 2021 sequel/reboot to the original PC fighting game Melty Blood from 2002. Melty Blood takes characters from Type-Moons visual novel from 2000, Tsukihime. Type Lumina’s release coincides with the Tsukihime remake from 2021.

As a Type-Moon series, Tsukihime, and Melty Blood are connected with the massive Fate franchise. Saber, also from the Fate franchise is also a playable character in Type Lumina.

The announcement is coming early, days before EVO 2022. Melty Blood: Type Lumina will be one of the nine major games in the lineup. Sony has made the announcement of the live stream, the EVO lounge live show. The stream promises reveal from developers such as Arc System Works, Capcom, SNK, and Bandai Namco.

What Is Neco-Arc

The character of Neco-Arc is a parody or “joke” character of the Tsukihime heroine Arcueid Brunstud. She is also a playable character in Melty Blood and Melty Blood: Type Lumina. Neco-Arc is a short, cat-girl version of Arcueid, with a cat tail, ears, large cat eyes, and round hands.

The character is returning to Melty Blood: Type Lumina as she previously appears in the third installment of Melty Blood, Melty Blood Act Cadenza.

The addition of Neco-Arc isn’t so surprising as she quickly became a fan favorite character. A part of the meme culture, she has been prominently a part of several Type-Moon crossovers. Technically Melty Blood while serving as a Tsukihime sequel also serves as a Type-Moon crossover series between Tsukihime, Fate, and The Garden of Sinners.

Neco-Arc is notably smaller than anyone in the game, not even reaching to the waist of the game’s shortest character Miyako Arima. Also featuring a move-set that stands out from the rest of the cast, Neco-Arc bombards her opponents with multiple Neco-Arcs attacking from multiple angles.

Her super even summons Saber’s weapon Excalibur, before bursting into dozens of Neco-Arcs. The super is complete with adding the UI from the mobile game Fate/Grand Order.

In the teaser trailer, Neco-Arc even uses a cell phone and pauses the fight, and opens a stream overlay. As a teaser, there is no confirmation if this was just a part of the trailer or an actual move.

Despite the status of a “joke” character, Neco-Arc wasn’t banned from tournament play in previous iterations of Melty Blood. In fact, in the majority of tier lists, Neco-Arc is a low-tier character. However, things can change in Melty Blood: Type Lumina.

Release Date

Neco-Arc, like all characters from season one, will be free DLC. All season two characters will also be free upon release.

Fate/Grand Order character Mash Kyrielight will be the second character a part of Season 2. There is no confirmation on the official release date for either Neco-Arc or Mash Kyrielight.

Season 2 timeline for Melty Blood: Type Lumina.

Characters such as Neco-Arc and Mash will likely bring even more eyes to Melty Blood. While Neco-Arc originates from Tsukihime and Melty Blood, she has since become a meme icon. Fate/Grand Order is also one of the most popular and successful mobile games of all time.

French-Bread plans on releasing them this summer. Two more characters will be a part of season two and will release this winter.
