New CSGO Decoy Exploit Stops Train Mid-Track on Overpass

Overpass has a train track running overhead right before the B site entrance. Occasionally, a train will pass harmlessly through the tracks, a unique feature unique to Overpass in CS:GO. Players have rediscovered an old CS:GO exploit on the map which halts the train mid-tracks. The static train blocks certain terrorist grenade lineups resulting in a huge advantage for the Counter-Terrorists.

How to Stop the Train on Overpass

CSGO Overpass Exploit Counter-Strike Global Offensive Valve esports

The Overpass Train

The exploit to block the train mid-tracks is not new. In fact, this bug was first discovered nearly five years ago in 2015. X6tence’s Head Coach Morten ‘zEVES’ Vollan shared a video of this exploit on social media. This tweet restarted the debate on this particular exploit and whether it is allowed in CS:GO tournaments.

The decoy stops the train only for a few seconds, but these few seconds can often dictate the outcome of a round. Once the decoy blows up, the train can move again. However, CS:GO players can, in theory, stop the train for long durations of time by chaining their decoy grenades. This can interfere with terrorists’ timings of certain grenades and force them into uncomfortable positions for new grenade lineups.

A $50 decoy that can force the opponent to alter their plans is definitely a worthy investment. But it might not be entirely legal, although tournament rules do not specifically mention this decoy exploit.

FaceIT and DreamHack banned this decoy bug abuse during DreamHack Open Valencia 2015. But the exploit has since gone under the radar and tournaments have not added rules that specifically prohibit this exploit.

It is still not clear whether tournament organizers and Valve plan to implement rules to prevent teams from using this exploit. With minimal time and money investment, Counter-Terrorist players can gain a significant advantage in some rounds. CS:GO teams have not yet used this exploit in professional matches in recent months.

The Esports Integrity Coalition recently banned thirty-seven CS:GO coaches for a visual bug exploit in professional matches. With TOs like DreamHack, ESL, BLAST and now WePlay!, part of ESIC, these bans will have a significant impact on some careers.
