New Modes, Playable Characters, More Coming Free to Sonic Frontiers in 2023

SEGA has announced what looks like an extensive slate of post-launch updates for Sonic Frontiers. The game, which released just a few weeks ago, will be receiving pretty substantial new content throughout 2023, and it’ll all be free.

Three major updates are set to arrive next year, each bringing new modes and features to the divisive open zone platformer. You can see for yourself what’s in store with this graphic:

The first update is set to add a jukebox, allowing you to listen to all the game’s music, a photo mode for some custom snapshots, and “new challenge modes”. Following that, we’ll be getting an in-game event for Sonic’s birthday, an “open zone challenge”, and new Koco to collect. Finally, the third update seems the biggest; it’s adding new playable characters to the game in addition to “new story”.

Presumably, the extra playable characters will be Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, though details are slim on any of these post-launch updates. That said, it’s encouraging that Sonic Team is going the extra mile for Frontiers. Some of these new additions will be most welcome.
