Why should you bet on theSaints?

New Orleans’ defense ranks fifthin the NFL in terms of points permitted per game. This is a team that hasoverperformed in games when they were seen as an underdog; the team’s wins overGreen Bay in Week 1 and over New England in Foxboro are just two examples. Thebiggest problem is that, while Trevor Siemian has been able to lead somesustained drives, finishing those drives with touchdowns (or even getting intofield goal range, in some cases) has been a major challenge. If you like theSaints, you see their defense taking charge of this game and snatching multipleturnovers, giving Siemian short fields to deal with. This was their blueprintagainst Tampa Bay.

Also, remember that Siemian isskilled at getting the ball out on time and avoiding sacks. The Titans have afearsome pass rush, but using some bubble screens and other quick routes willhelp the Saints avoid sacks and keep Siemian upright. Since Tennessee lost tothe Jets, we really have not seen them stumble in a game, and they are usuallygood for at least three of those setback games in a regular season.

Why should you put your money onthe Titans?

Why isn’t this line a bit bigger? After all, the Saintswill still have backup quarterback Trevor Siemian (with perhaps some doses ofTaysom Hill) running the offense, as Jameis Winston is done for the season withthat ACL tear. One possibility is the suspicion that the Titans are ready for aletdown after that big win. However, the Titans’ defense stood tall last week,picking off Matthew Stafford twice and bringing one pick back to the house fora touchdown. The Titans’ running game still provided enough balance tofacilitate some extended drives, keeping the ball away from the Rams’ offense.

As solid as the Saints’ defense is, they still lost to anAtlanta Falcons team that has been playing inconsistent ball all season long –and they lost at home. While one of the Titans’ two losses came at the hands ofthe New York Jets, of all teams, they have beaten both Kansas City and Buffalothis season. Those wins came with Henry, but the Titans can still run the ball,and they still have that strong defense. They also still have Ryan Tannehill –and Julio Jones still has yet to get fully unleashed.

The Titans are still flying under the radar in the AFC,with most of the noise coming from Buffalo and Baltimore so far. This is stilla solid team in all three phases, and I see them taking the game to New Orleanshere.

I predict a final score of Titans 23, Saints 13.
