Next Mass Effect Game Enters Early Stages of Development at BioWare

BioWare has revealed they have started development on the next Mass Effect game. The surprise admission came amidst a community update on Dragon Age 4, which the team is also developing alongside the new Mass Effect game and Star Wars: The Old Republic.

What do we know about the new Mass Effect game?

Mass Effect

The next Mass Effect game is “early in development” and it’s going to be “a while” before we hear any more details about it. We’ve heard very little about the game at all since the end of 2020, but we do know the game will tie in to the original trilogy’s characters and stories with Liara confirmed to return. However, there is the potential for the game to also tie into Mass Effect: Andromeda, especially as two galaxies made an appearance in the game’s brief teaser trailer. The development team is directed by Michael Gamble and includes Mass Effect veterans Dusty Everman as Narrative Designer, Parrish Ley as Cinematic Director, Brenon Holmes as Producer, and Derek Watts as Art Director.

Very little else was said about Dragon Age 4 in the community update blog post either, although John Epler has joined the team as Creative Director and Maciej Kurowski will be Technical Director. The game is much further along, though, this time being “midway through production”. More will be shared about the game “when the time is right.”

In other news, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Game of the Year Edition has been delayed for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and will no longer be released in Q2 2022. The delay comes after Russian studio saber Interactive was removed from the project and development has returned to CD Projekt Red. Elsewhere, both Sony and Nintendo will be revising their auto-renewal policies following an investigation into anti-consumer practices from the UK government’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
