NFL Must-Bet Games: Week 2 of the 2022 Regular Season

The first week of the 2022 NFL regular season brought a lot of headlines. Joe Burrow threw four interceptions in the Cincinnati Bengals’ home opener against Pittsburgh – but the Bengals still had chances to win the game. They turned a first-and-goal from inside the 1 into a three-yard loss and a field goal, they had an extra point blocked with no time left in regulation and missed a field goal in overtime. The Chargers lost Keenan Allen for an extended period of time, and they only managed 48 yards in their last five drives combined against Las Vegas in their opener. They held on to win, but this week won’t be as easy. Russell Wilson returned to Seattle as a member of the Denver Broncos, and not only did he hear the boos, but his offense fumbled the ball inside the five-yard line twice in the second half, and the Broncos lost by one. What will the best NFL betting games in Week 2 be? Read on to find our suggestions.

NFL News: Must-Bet Games for Week 2

L.A. Chargers (+3.5) at Kansas City Chiefs
(8:15 pm ET, Prime Video)

The Chargers have not started 2-0 since 2012, and they face a steep challenge to get to 2-0 this time around. With Allen out, Mike Williams will get more targets in the Chargers’ offense – but he will also get more attention from the Kansas City defense. The Chiefs gave up 21 points in Arizona last week, but the last 14 came in garbage time with the game out of reach. The Chiefs scored on their first five possessions, hanging 30 points on the Cardinals before taking their feet off the gas. They would eventually win, 44-21. Patrick Mahomes had five touchdown passes, slicing and dicing a hapless Cardinals’ defense.

The Chargers have a stout pass rush with Khalil Mack (six tackles in Week 1) and Joey Bosa (1 ½ sacks), and they will need to get after Patrick Mahomes early and often. That was Tampa Bay’s recipe for success against Mahomes in Super Bowl LV, and it also helped Cincinnati in their comeback win in the AFC Championship last year. The Chiefs looked locked in Week 1, though, and the Chargers have to travel on a short week. This line will likely start creeping up, so I would get in sooner than later. Kansas City to win and cover.

Washington Commanders (+1.5) at Detroit Lions
(12:00 pm ET, FOX)

Washington’s terrific finish against Jacksonville masked some issues that will come to haunt them if they cannot fix the leaks on their defense, while Detroit almost clawed their way back against a Philadephia team that is better than Washington. Jared Goff threw for 215 yards, with two touchdowns and a pick, and tailback D’Andre Swift had a huge day against Philadelphia, rumbling for 144 yards and a touchdown. The defense was the issue, as the Lions permitted 38 points and 455 total yards. Tracy Walker III had 13 tackles, but the unit needs to do better.

Washington has covered in three of their last five road games and in seven of their last ten games overall, while the Lions have covered in five straight at home and in eight of their last ten. The Commanders got great things out of Carson Wentz (four touchdown passes, including a pair of bombs in the late going), but they also saw his less helpful side, as he had a pair of bad interceptions. Right now, the Lions have more upside on offense, but if Wentz can temper the turnovers, he has the arm to lead the Commanders a long way. I think Detroit is closer to fixing the problems than Washington is, even though the Lions lost last week. Detroit to win and cover.
