NFL Week 11: Houston Texans at Tennessee Titans Betting Preview

The Tennessee Titans ride a six-game winning streak into Sunday’s visit from the woeful Houston Texans. Tennessee opened the season with a loss and limped out to a 2-2 start that included an ugly overtime loss against the New York Jets. Since then, though, they have reeled off a series of wins that includes home victories over Buffalo and Kansas City and a win over the Rams in Los Angeles. Their 8-2 record has them atop the AFC standings going into Week 11. They next play a Texans team that won their opener over Jacksonville but has lost all eight games since, including a 17-9 loss at Miami in their last outing. The Titans need this win to keep building that lead in the conference — and their hold on the AFC’s bye through the wild card round, but will the Texans play spoiler?

Why should you bet on the Texans?

Tyrod Taylor is back at the helm of the Houston offense, and he has thrown for 656 yards with a 3:3 TD:INT ratio and a 63.2 percent pass completion rate. Chris Conley and Brandin Cooks have gained 837 receiving yards and all three of those passing touchdowns. On the ground, the Texans are led by Phillip Lindsay, who has 133 yards and a touchdown. As a team, the Texans run for 75.8 yards per game.

On defense, the Texans permit 28.7 points and 385.9 yards per contest. The top tackler is Christian Kirksey, with 56, and Jonathan Greenard is having a decent season with seven sacks. Lonnie Johnson Jr has picked off three passes. The top reason to wager on the Texans this week is the large point spread. They also come out of their bye week to face their divisional foe. However, even though the Texans have been heavy underdogs for most of the season, they have only covered twice in their last seven games. As well as the Titans are playing, this is a hard case to make.

Why should you put your money on the Titans?

Houston is 0-5 on the road, and Tennessee has won four straight at Nissan Stadium. Ryan Tannehill has thrown for 2,358 yards with a 12:8 TD:INT ratio. Julio Jones has started to come into his own as a receiver, but he has been much more fragile than the Titans thought when they brought him over from Atlanta. Jones and A.J. Browns have combined for three touchdown catches, and another dangerous receiver is Jeremy McNichols, primarily out of the backfield.

On defense, the Titans permit 23.2 points per game, and 366.5 yards. David Long Jr is the top tackler (66), and Harold Landry III leads the team with 10 sacks. Kevin Byard has already hauled in five interceptions this year. As aggressive as their defense has been all year long, the Titans should be able to take the game to Houston and build an early lead.

Final Score and Betting Prediction

Houston has failed to cover in four straight road games, while the Titans have covered in five of their last six AFC South games and in five of their last six games overall. Given that Houston is last in the NFL in total offense and scoring offense, as well as 30th in total defense and 29th in scoring defense, there is nothing that bodes well for Houston here. I will predict a final score of Tennessee 27, Houston 13.
