no_bells_no_whistles_tourist_walks_away_from_dlr23m_progressive_jackpot_win_in_vegas_ A Las Vegas tourist from the U.S. state of Arizona won a progressive jackpot on January 8, 2022, at the Treasure Island Hotel & Casino but he didn’t know about the $229,368.52 win for several weeks. The slot machine experienced a malfunction and neglected to show Robert Taylor he had. The malfunction also failed to notify slot attendants on the casino floor.

According to a statement from the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB), the “slot machine experienced a malfunction that prevented Mr. Taylor and casino personnel from realizing that a progressive jackpot had been won.

“By the time an extensive review of the slot machine and the communications technology was completed, confirming the jackpot had been won, Mr. Taylor had returned home to Arizona,” read the statement.

It’s unclear if the player was using his loyalty comps card at the time, which would presumably make it easier to connect the player to the jackpot. As it was, the gaming board was forced to launch an extensive investigation to identify him.

Extensive Investigation Ensued

According to the Guardian, the investigation included rideshare data analyzed by the Nevada Transportation Authority, a broad study of electronic purchase records, witness interviews, and the review of surveillance footage not only at Treasure Island but other properties as well.

After completing the investigation authorities were able to determine that Taylor was the person who had triggered the jackpot and nearly three weeks hence, he was notified of his luck on January 28.

“On January 28, 2022, at approximately 1230 hours, Robert Taylor was officially notified of his $229,368.52 jackpot”, a statement from the regulators said.

James Taylor, chief of enforcement for the NGCB said: “The Nevada Gaming Control Board is charged with the strict regulation of the gaming industry, the protection of the gaming public, and ensuring that the industry benefits the state of Nevada.

“I commend the agents of the enforcement division […]

for ensuring that the public trust in the gaming industry remains strong by spending countless hours over two weeks to ensure that a patron is awarded winnings owed to him.

“I’d also like to thank the Nevada Transportation Authority for their assistance in confirming the identity of the patron. This has been a great example of government working together for the benefit of the public.”

Gaming officials said the player will go back to Las Vegas to collect his jackpot.
