Overwatch 2: Junker Queen’s Best Tank Matchups

We take a look at the tanks who might have some trouble dealing with Overwatch 2’s newest hero; Junker Queen.

Every day brings us one step closer to the arrival of Overwatch 2. As you know, Blizzard’s latest game will arrive this October and it includes tons of new things. The most interesting one is the fact that it will be free to play. However, Overwatch 2 will also have three new heroes, new maps, skins, and more.

Speaking of new heroes, we already have access to two of them. The first one is a DPS called Sojourn and she is one of the most interesting heroes to get. People had the chance to play with her during the open beta and are also available in the close one.

Aside from Sojourn, those with access to the closed beta can also play with Overwatch 2’s latest tank — Junker Queen. The latter is an incredibly powerful hero who relies on dealing damage to survive. JQ does not have any shields or defensive abilities. Instead, her damage makes the target “bleed”, which triggers her passive called “Adrenaline Rush”, which heals JQ from all DoT dealt by wounds.

Like any other hero in the game, Junker Queen is good versus certain heroes and bad versus others. Most guides about the hero include information about the DPS and Supports, but this one will focus on something more important – Tanks.

The tank vs tank matchup is one of the most interesting ones in the game and will have an even more important role in Overwatch 2. After all, teams will only have five heroes (instead of 6), which make every hero’s impact a lot bigger than before.

With that being said, here are some of the best tank matchups you have to be aware of.

Best Matchups

Before we point out some of the heroes that JQ excels against, we’d like to inform you that everything here is based on our experience. The game is still in beta (at the time of writing this article), so things might change in the future.

Roadhog

The first hero that we think has to be on the list is Roadhog, and it probably doesn’t come as a surprise. Like JQ, this hero also relies on doing damage to survive. Hog does not have a shield, but he has an ability that heals him, and it got buffed in Overwatch 2.

Even though it may seem like Junker Queen will suffer in this matchup, this is usually not the case. As long as the hero hits him and other enemies with the Jagged Blade and Carnage, she will deal enough damage to sustain herself.

With that being said, this matchup may not end well for JQ if Roadhog lands his hook. The hero deals tons of damage, but it won’t be enough JQ because she can use her Commanding Shout. Having said that, she will have low HP, which means the hero will have to run away.

To sum up, Road vs JQ is an interesting matchup that both heroes can win. However, Junker Queen has the lead because she can sustain herself from the damage she deals.

Orisa

The new Orisa is much more fun to play, which explains why you can find the hero in almost any game during the beta. The tanks work well in many scenarios and can deal insane amounts of damage. However, it is not that good against Junker Queen because the latter is just too aggressive, even for Orisa.

Judging from our experience, Junker Queen can do much more damage than Orisa, allowing her to outlive her opponent. The only exception is when Orisa has ult, but JQ should be able to survive it by using her Commanding Shout and/or Ultimate.

The bad news for this matchup is that Junker Queen will have problems killing Orisa. Although she deals a lot of damage, Orisa is one of the most robust tanks in the game and also can reduce the incoming damage. As a result, JQ often needs help to deal with this hero.

Bad Matchups

Even though the heroes mentioned above are not that easy to deal with, most JQ players shouldn’t have problems. However, the same can’t be said about the names you are about to see below.

Doomfist

Aside from Junker Queen, Overwatch 2 has another tank that was not available previously. His name is Doomfirst and he was one of the most popular DPS heroes in Overwatch. However, it seems like Blizzard decided to put him in the tank role.

Like JQ and several other heroes, Doomfirst does not have a shield. However, the hero offers something called Power Block, which allows him to protect himself from frontal attack. Although it does not block all of the damage, this ability helps Doomfist a lot because he can use it to empower his Rocket Punch.

Speaking of the devil, this is one of the abilities that makes him an excellent pick against Junker Queen. The latter relies on doing damage to survive, so having the ability to block it makes her weak. What’s more, Doomfirst is one of the heroes that can do more damage than JQ, depending on the situation.

As if that’s not enough, Doomfirst can always escape when needed and JQ won’t be able to follow him unless she uses her ultimate.

D.Va

The last tank that is usually doing pretty well against Doomfirst is D.Va. Many of you won’t be surprised because this was among the go-to tanks in Overwatch, even among professional players. D.Va’s high damage output, loads of armor, and the fact that she can make certain abilities feel useless, which is why she is an excellent option against pretty much anything, including Junker Queen.

Although D.Va’s hitbox is pretty big, allowing JQ to land her shots, this is one of the tanks that doesn’t always need to be in melee range. Hence, Junker Queen is less effective against her. In fact, people who know what they’re doing can easily avoid most of the damage, which will make JQ feel a lot weaker because she won’t be able to heal herself.
