OWL: JJANGGU Retires From Competitive Overwatch

Myung-heum “JJANGGU” Cho retires from competitive Overwatch to enlist in the military.

Former Houston Outlaws tank player Myung-heum “JJANGGU” Cho announces his decision to retire from competitive Overwatch to join the military.

JJANGGU began his Overwatch career as a flex DPS player. His first highlight was winning the Open Division 2018 Season 2 Korea with GC Busan WAVE. His team then placed 5-8th in the Overwatch Contenders 2018 and 2019 seasons; despite good performances from the player who switched to a tanking role. In 2020, he joined Talon Esports. The team reached the Semifinals of the Overwatch Contenders 2020 Season 2 Korea.

JJANGGU made his first steps in the Overwatch League in 2021 with Houston Outlaws. As the main tank of the team, his Reinhardt shatters were real threats for all teams facing the Outlaws. JJANGGU even holds the record of most stuns per Earthstatter in this Overwatch League season.

But that wasn’t enough to guarantee his place in the team. The Houston Outlaws benched him mid-season in favor of Sanglok “Dreamer” Song. At the end of the year, the team didn’t extend JJANGGU’s contract, leaving the player without a team for the Overwatch League 2022 season.

Today, JJANGGU is putting an end to his competitive Overwatch career. He will be joining the military on February 14.
