Padres vs. Rockies Recap and Big Trades

The San Diego Padres made some huge trades just before the trade deadline.

The first big trade the Padres made was with the Milwaukee Brewers, as they traded to acquire closing pitcher Josh Hader. Arguably the biggest trade in the entirety of the MLB was during the morning of the trade deadline. The Padres acquired right fielder Juan Soto and first baseman Josh Bell from the Washington Nationals. The team also traded for utility player Brandon Drury from the Cincinnati Reds.

Padres fans were able to see these players in action starting Tuesday night. The Padres have won four games in a five-game series against the Colorado Rockies. The Padres won the first four games, but then lost the final game.

The first game of the series included a solid outing by starting pitcher Mike Clevinger. He pitched in seven innings, giving up only one run on five hits. He also threw six strikeouts in the game. He also did not give up a walk, and he brought his ERA down to 3.13 on the season.

The Padres hit a couple of home runs in this game. One came from left fielder Jurickson Profar, and the other came from center fielder Trent Grisham. The Padres ended up winning this game with a score of 4-1.

The second game of the series was an offensive explosion from the Padres.

Five Padres hitters had multiple hits in this game. Each player in the lineup had at least one hit except for third baseman Manny Machado. Profar had five hits, while shortstop Ha-Seong Kim had four hits.

Starting pitcher Yu Darvish had a decent outing in this game. He pitched in six innings and gave up three runs on six hits and two walks. He also struck out seven batters. The Padres won this game 13-5, and Darvish earned his 10th win of the season.

The third game of the series was a close game throughout. Both the Rockies and Padres scored two runs in the first inning, and the game remained 2-2 until the ninth inning.

Starting pitcher Reiss Knehr started this game for the Padres. He went three â…” innings and gave up two runs on four hits and two walks. The bullpen was solid in relief of Knehr, as they gave up no runs on two hits.

Grisham was at the plate in the bottom of the ninth against pitcher Alex Colome. He proceeded to hit a walk-off home run and give the Padres a 3-2 victory.

The fourth game of the series was another offensive explosion by the Padres lineup.

It was also the first game played with the new offensive acquisitions. Soto, Bell and Drury all produced in this game. Soto had two walks and a hit, Bell also had two walks and Drury hit a grand slam.

Starting pitcher Blake Snell had another solid outing in this game. He pitched in six innings and gave up one run on four hits. He struck out nine Rockies batters as well. The Padres won this game 9-1.

The fifth game of the series was an unfortunate result, as the Padres were unable to complete the first five-game series sweep in franchise history. The Padres lost the game 7-3.

Despite the loss, the Padres have a 61-47 record on the season. They are well on their way to gaining a postseason berth, especially after the trades for big-time players.
